In accordance with Board Policy 7:270, the following medication procedures are required and will be followed:

 

No medication may be taken from a student or from a student’s backpack at school.

This policy applies to all medications, including over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol (acetaminophen), ibuprofen, cough drops, antacids, and similar products.

District-Provided Over-the-Counter Medications

To support student health needs during the school day, the district will provide the following over-the-counter medications as needed, with the Student Medical Authorization Form completed:

·       Tylenol (acetaminophen)

·       Ibuprofen

·       Cough drops

·       Antacids 

In order for your child to receive any of these medications from the school:

·       A completed Student Medical Authorization Form must be on file

·       The form must include parent/guardian permission and the physician’s signature

·       Medications will be administered in accordance with dosage guidelines and school policy

Prescription Medication Procedures

If your child requires prescription medication during the school day, the following procedures must be followed:

·       A completed Student Medical Authorization Form signed by both the physician and parent/guardian must be on file

·       All prescription medications must be brought to school by a parent or guardian

·       Medications must be in the original pharmacy-labeled container indicating the student’s name, physician’s name, medication name, dosage, and administration instructions

·       At the time of drop-off, the medication will be counted in the presence of the parent/guardian

·       The parent/guardian must sign to verify the quantity of medication being left with the school

Parent-Provided Over-the-Counter Medication

If a parent/guardian prefers to supply a specific brand or alternative over-the-counter medication:

·       The medication must be brought to school by a parent or guardian

·       It must be in the original, labeled container

·       The medication will be counted at drop-off

·       The parent/guardian must sign to verify what is being left with the school

These procedures are mandatory and are in place to ensure the safe and accurate administration of medication for all students.
